WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1982, the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies (known around campus as FedSoc) is a group of conservatives and libertarians dedicated to reforming the current legal order. The law students that founded the Society aimed to create a forum for debate in which diverse legal viewpoints and perspectives could be heard.  We are committed to the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to determine what the law is, not what it should be.  There are about 25,000 members of the Federalist Society nationwide in its Lawyers, Students, and Faculty Divisions. The Lawyers Division includes chapters in about sixty cities as well as fifteen practice groups, which cover specific areas of the law.

There are ample opportunities for you to get involved with the Syracuse Law Student Chapter. I invite you to bring your ideas, contacts, and issues and join us as we engage the law community in debate and the open exchange of ideas.
